LARCHMONT, N.Y. - Kiran Chetry took a break from hard news to enjoy the soft folk rock sounds of Bill Steeley and Where's Dave at the first outdoor concert in Flint Park Thursday.
"It's so nice to just sit here and let the kids experience this," said Chetry, the co-anchor of CNN's American Morning. "It's a nice community event."
The Village of Larchmont Committee on the Arts sponsors concerts each Thursday in July at Flint Park. The concerts are free to the public and families are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic food to enjoy while a band plays from the recreation building.
While Chetry's two children enjoyed the adjacent playground before the concert started around 7:30 p.m., the former Fox News anchor told her son Chris, 3, not to touch the band's speakers. In response, one of the band members replied, "If they let me touch it, you can touch it, too."
Nili Asherie, chair of the Committee on the Arts, said the weekly summer concerts have been going on for more than 20 years. Her colleague, Bruce Rose, is in charge of booking bands. This includes Bill Steeley and Where's Dave, for which he plays guitar. Rose said this is the fourth year his band has played the Concert in Flint Park.
The following bands will be performing at the Concert in Flint Park in the coming weeks:
July 14 - Twist of Fate, a reggae, ska, folk, rock band.
July 21 - MPH and the Overdrive, a classic rock band
July 28 - The Dwellers, an indie, alternative band
