10 Westchester Beaches Closed Due To Stormwater Bacteria

WESTCHESTER, N.Y. – Swimming was banned Tuesday at 10 Westchester County beaches along the Long Island Sound due to bacteria carried by stormwater from overnight rain, the county Health Department announced.

The Health Department closes those beaches as a pre-emptive measure for one day whenever it rains at least half an inch within 24 hours, according to the county. If it rains more than an inch, they remain closed for two days or more.

The following Westchester beaches are closed:

Mamaroneck – -Harbor Island -Beach Point Club -Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club -Shore Acres Point Club -Orienta Beach Club

Rye – -Coveleigh Club

New Rochelle – -Davenport Club -Greentree Club

New Rochelle – -Echo Bay Yacht Club -Hudson Park Beach
