UPDATE: The debris was cleared and Murray Avenue was reopened by 5 p.m.
MAMARONECK, N.Y. - Scattered thunderstorms Wednesday knocked down a large tree onto Murray Avenue and forced the Town of Mamaroneck to close one half of the road.
The tree, which sat between Myrtle Boulevard and Edgewood Avenue, fell into the street early in the afternoon. Residents called the town and workers showed up just after 2 p.m. to cut down the tree and remove the debris. One general foreman at the scene said they wouldn't have the road cleared until at least 3 p.m.
Another foreman said Westchester County would also respond because Murray Avenue is a county road. However, town officials could be done with the cleanup before county workers arrived.
"By the time Westchester county gets here, who knows," the foreman said.
