Five Questions: Seligson Unopposed for Supervisor

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- The Daily Mamaroneck will be compiling candidate profiles before the Nov. 8 elections. Each candidate was asked the same questions.

Nancy Seligson is a Democrat running unopposed for Town Supervisor. The council member is in her third term on the Town Board and is an environmental advocate by trade. She is the chair the Westchester County Board of Health, the Westchester County Environmental Council, and a past chair of the Westchester League of Conservation Voters Board and the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Coastal Zone Management Commission. She graduated from Northwestern University in 1982.

Why would you make a good representative in the coming term?I think because of my experience and knowledge and interest in the town. Because I want to see us be a well-run government and continue to be a thriving, wonderful place to live. If elected, what are your three biggest goals you would work to accomplish?Number one would be, of course, to lower our costs so, hopefully, we could lower our taxes as well. But, it's a balancing act, as that goal would also go along with trying to maintain our services. Or to either change our services in some creative way, or a way that was satisfactory and acceptable to the residents. So, it's controlling costs and maintaining or improving our services. I do not think that's an easy thing to do. But we're going to work hard at looking at this budget and exploring different ways to provide services to see if we can decrease any of our costs. Thirdly, for me, it is trying to progress the environmental efforts of the town so that we can also, hopefully, save some money and also reduce the amount of pollution that we have in the town. So I would like to focus on reducing our energy use and greening our building code. Has the local government made any mistakes and had any oversights? How would you avoid them?I've been there a long time and it's not to say that we haven't done things that I wish we did differently, but nothing sticks out as a huge mistakes, or that would be categorized as a mistake. What specifically makes you different from your opponent?Nancy Seligson is running unopposed for Town Supervisor. What is the best part about Mamaroneck? For me it is our proximity to Long Island Sound, some of the natural features of the community. That it is so wonderful to be in a developed community that has access to some wonderful natural attributes, as well as being so close to the city, and still having a very active community onto itself. I think it is so wonderful that you're able to live in this vibrant and thriving community and still take a walk in a wetland, see birds, go fishing and walk along the cost.
