Weaver Street Bridge To Close June 3 For Repairs By DOT

MAMARONECK, N.Y. - The heavily trafficked Weaver Street Bridge will close June 3 when the state Department of Transportation (DOT) replaces its deck, curbs, sidewalks and fencing.

The DOT intended to close the bridge to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic until at least July 24. However, it agreed to make the bridge accessible to pedestrians through the end of the school year, June 23.

"Realizing that closure of this main crossway while school is in session will cause significant disruption, the Mamaroneck School District and the Town of Mamaroneck worked together closely to urge the DOT to allow pedestrians access across the bridge," the Mamaroneck School District said in a statement.

The Weaver Street Bridge, an overpass for Interstate-95, is one of 23 in the Hudson Valley and 115 statewide, that the DOT has identified as in need of repair. The $1.246 million project is part of the New York Works Program, which will fund a total of $1.2 billion in similar projects statewide.

The repair project was planned to begin in March. But the town convinced the DOT to push it back closer to the end of the school year.

The DOT chose the Weaver Street Bridge for this program because it was in a "deteriorated condition and needs replacement," Mamaroneck Town Administrator Stephen Altieri said.
