A motorist killed late Friday afternoon during the Nor'easter when a tree landed on his vehicle on a stretch of I-87 in Westchester has been identified.

The driver of the vehicle, 67-year-old Barry Shapiro, was transported to Westchester Medical Center with serious life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead, state police said.

State Police were dispatched to investigate a serious injury accident which occurred northbound near mile-post marker 11.3 in Greenburgh at approximately 4:40 p.m. amid the storm.

The tree fell from the eastbound shoulder and landed on Shapiro's vehicle, police said. Shapiro's vehicle continued a short distance until coming to rest against a guiderail.
