Westchester Native Durst Says He Was High On Meth When Taping HBO Show

Accused murderer Robert Durst, a Westchester native and millionaire real estate heir, told prosecutors that he was high on methamphetamines during interviews with the filmmakers of the HBO special “The Jinx” in court documents released Friday, according to The Los Angeles Times.

The personal papers, obtained by the LA Times, also say Durst, a former South Salem resident, agreed to the interviews so he would appear to be normal.

The 73-year-old Durst is due to appear in Los Angeles court on Monday for the 2000 execution-style murder of his friend and confidant, Susan Berman, in Beverly Hills.

Prosecutors and defense lawyers are now arguing if Durst’s personal papers can be used in the trial, according to multiple reports.

Berman was the daughter of Davie Berman, a Las Vegas mob figure. Her death was originally closed as a possible mob hit until her friends fought that the connection was ludicrous, according to reports.

Durst was living in South Salem when his wife Kathleen McCormack Durst disappeared in 1982 under suspicious circumstances. Friends and family have kept the case open and have said publicly they have evidence linking the real estate tycoon to her murder.

Durst was found not guilty of the 2003 murder of his Texas neighbor, even though he had admitted to chopping up the body.

In the HBO series, Durst can be heard muttering to himself on a live microphone “There it is. You’re caught! What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course.”

He was arrested for the Texas murder the day the six-part HBO series ended.
