POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Angelika Graswald, the 35-year-old Poughkeepsie woman accused of murdering her fiancé, told the ABC News show “20/20” that she is innocent of the charges.
Vince Viafore, 46, Graswald’s fiancé, was not wearing a life jacket. Graswald said that the two were kayaking on the Hudson on April 19 when cold waves swamped Viafore’s kayak and capsized it, and that she was unable to reach him in time, reported ABC News.
ABC News also reported that prosecutors say that Graswald admitted to tampering with her fiance’s kayak, which ultimately led to his drowning. Graswald denies that she said that, and her attorney said that the police interrogated their client for nearly 12 hours.
Graswald’s next court day is scheduled on Nov. 23. Her trial is expected to start sometime in spring, 2016, according to ABC News.
