He was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, the only child of Athanasios and Glykeria Bousvaros.
He graduated with the highest honors from the University of Athens Medical School, completed postgraduate training in cardiology in London and Canada, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1966.
During his career as a physician, he was chief of the divisions of cardiology at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany and Metropolitan Hospital in Manhattan, and professor of medicine at Albany Medical School and the New York Medical College.
After giving up his administrative duties, he continued to serve as a cardiologist at Lincoln Hospital until he became ill.
He is survived by his wife, Olga; two children, Dr. Athos Bousvaros and Maria Tollefson, and their spouses Dr. Margaret Lotz and Dr. Terry Tollefson; and three grandchildren, Sophia, George and Byron.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 29, from 5-9 p.m. at the Coxe and Graziano Funeral Home, 767 E. Boston Post Road, Mamaroneck.
The service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in New Rochelle.
