Henry Edward 'Hank' McWilliam, 18, Rye High School Student

RYE, N.Y. -- Henry "Hank" Edward McWilliam, a Rye High School senior, died unexpectedly on Dec. 21. He was 18.

He was born on Feb. 23, 1997.

He is survived by his parents, Dr. James R. McWilliam and Catherine S. McWilliam (née O'Neill); his sister, Cate McWilliam; his grandmothers Ruth McWilliam of Tampa, Fla. and Anne O'Neill of Largo, Fla; and his grandfathers Thomas H. McWilliam of Tampa, Fla. and John T. O'Neill of Rye. His uncle, Edward Towle McWilliam, preceded him in death. 

Born at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, Okla., he was a devoted son, brother and grandson. He was an avid ice hockey player, having been a big part of the defense for the Jesuit Tigers in Tampa, Fla.; Tampa Scorpions; Utah Regulators; Islanders Hockey Club; Connecticut Junior Rangers; and the Rye High School Garnets. 

He loved the sport and especially, the camaraderie of the team. He will be remembered for his sharp sense of humor, his love of animals and children and his cutting-edge style. 

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him as he touched so many lives with his compassion, sensitivity, ability to bring laughter to any situation and larger than life personality. 

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday morning at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the SPCA of Westchester online by clicking here.
