Officers on patrol in Scarsdale shortly after midnight on Friday morning reported that they saw White Plains resident Jose Alejandro Tineo, 31, driving southbound on Post Road, near Fenimore Road, in the middle of the two lanes.
Police said that Tineo was “traveling at a slow rate of speed” and he proceeded to drift into the right-hand lane, nearly striking a second driver who had been passing him. The vehicle then drifted into the northbound lanes of Post Road, into oncoming traffic, across the northbound lanes. The car went over a curb and came to a stop on Post Road. Investigators noted that due to the low rate of speed, there was no damage to the vehicle or property in the area.
According to police, Tineo told officers that he felt like his heart was racing during the incident. He was transported to an emergency room at White Plains Hospital for treatment as officers investigated.
The investigation found that Tineo’s license had been suspended 19 times, and it was required that he was required to have an interlock device in his vehicle due to an aggravated DWI conviction in 2015. He was arrested at the hospital while receiving treatment.
Tineo had his vehicle towed from Post Road, and a search of the car found a “small white rock-like substance wrapped in a piece of plastic, which appeared to be crack cocaine,” which was in plain sight near the gear shifter. Police noted that “a single loose cigarette that had been unrolled and re-rolled with unknown contents was observed in the center console of the car.”
Following his arrest, Tineo was charged with using a vehicle without an interlock device and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle with more than three suspensions, both misdemeanors. He was also cited for operating a motor vehicle without a license, moving from his lane unsafely and failure to maintain his lane.
Tineo was released on $200 bail. He is due back in the Village of Scarsdale Court on Sept. 5 to answer the charges.
