MAMARONECK, N.Y. A former village trustee and two lifelong residents are on the Republican ticket to compete for three at-large village trustee positions in the November election.
Michael Sudano, who served on the village board from 1997 to 2000, Dennis Cucinella, who serves as a code enforcement inspector in Scarsdale, and George Belsito, an engineering technician who retired from the Westchester Joint Water Works last year, all said they are running to maintain the quality of life in Mamaroneck.
Knowing the other two men could also potentially serve on the board alongside them to help direct the future of the village also motivated them to stand for the positions, each candidate said.
This is a friendly rivalry. If one loses, then we would all feel we lost, said Cucinella, who is a third-generation Mamaroneck resident, following his grandparents, who settled here in the late 1800s. We all have such a love for the village that we want to preserve the nature of it.
Belsito, who also grew up in the village, said he wants to continue building on Mayor Norman Rosenblums Live, Hire, Work locally focus, because it is a reflection of my youth.
I would love to be part of the team to enhance that effort and continue it, Belsito said. I want to get involved to make a difference help mitigate the flooding issues, keeping taxes low and promote changes that will further enhance the community.
Its an exciting time as there are a lot of good things going on right now and I want to do whatever I can to contribute to the community, echoed Sudano, the former trustee, former teacher in the local schools and self-described former Bronx boy. I love the direction the village is going and want to work alongside the mayor and deputy mayor to guide it along.
Maryanne Genovese, chair of the villages Republican Committee, said the three men were selected by the 26-member committee for the strength of their community involvement and service and skills sets.
We have a very strong slate of candidates and they will all be great additions to the village board, she said. We are looking forward to a strong campaign and expect success for all our candidates.
The three men, and the Republican choice for village justice, Jennifer Bienstock-Cohen, will be presented to the public at a Meet the Candidates fundraising event 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Molly Spillanes pub in Mamaroneck. The $50 suggested donation includes food and drinks, including beer and wine.
