David Finch, 71, is running for village trustee and received the Mamaroneck Democrats endorsement, along with incumbents Leon Potok and Ilissa Miller. The third incumbent up for re-election, Andres Bermudez-Hallstrom, did not receive the party's endorsement.
The newcommer spent 45 years in banking and finance and volunteers for LMC-TV, At Home on the Sound, UNA-USA and UUA International Funding Panel.
Why would you be a good representative in the coming term? I have the breadth and depth of experience, knowledge, judgment, and maturity to serve Mamaroneck as an effective Trustee. What is the biggest issue facing the village and how would you address it if elected? Our residential real estate taxes, contributing to making all housing expensive. The most effective approach in the long run is wise development of our industrial, commercial, and retail areas.
Mamaroneck has many upcoming opportunities to encourage dynamic, mixed-use new development near our train station and appropriate development within our light industrial area. Transit-oriented development near the Metro-North station takes advantage of our proximity to New York City and other communities and cities along Metro-North and I-95 without disrupting our beautiful waterfront or changing our village character. Has the local government made any mistakes or had any oversights during the last term? Having a strong Democratic majority will be the best way to avoid many of the mistakes and oversights of the last two years. We need to continue to hold the line against Mayor Rosenblum's pet projects in order to protect the value of our tax dollars. A thoughtful majority on the Board adds vital oversight to the budgeting process. What specifically makes you different from your opponent? I've lived in the Village for 30 years. My two children and my granddaughter reside in the Village as well. Having my family live in Mamaroneck makes this community's future especially important to me.
