To celebrate, the school is holding its annual fundraiser at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 in the Larchmont school’s gymnasium. About 200 members of the school and parish community are expected attend.

As other Catholic schools and parishes in Westchester are closing or merging, Saints John and Paul (SPJ) is bucking that trend and has been growing, according to school officials.

“SJP is a hidden gem in Larchmont. We educate our students academically and spiritually with a sense of family where all students thrive,” said Fatima Gianni, principal at SJP.

The SJP Parish was established on July 19, 1949. Three years later, on September 9, 1952, the doors of SJP School officially opened.

The school’s annual fundraiser is organized by the Parish, Student, Parent Association (PSPA) and is expected to raise more than $100,000 for the school.

Tony Aiello of Westchester, a television reporter with CBS 2 news, will help with this year's fundraising effort by serving as auctioneer on Saturday. Aiello joined CBS 2 in October 2002, after nearly five years at WNBC-TV. After spending eight years covering news in the northern suburbs, Aiello’s now based at the CBS 2 Broadcast Center in New York City.

Key items beings auctioned include a special invitation to see the Iona Gaels Basketball team play with a private reception at the home of the president of Iona College; tickets to a Yankees baseball game in a premiere suite; a gourmet dinner from Posto 22 in your home with wait staff; and an outing to the American Girl Store in NYC with SJP’s Principal and beloved nurse. A list of other auction offerings can be found by clicking here.

Funds raised from the event are typically used for improvements to the facilities as well as educational enhancements and activities for the schoolchildren. In the past they have been used for new floors, air conditioning, laptops for each classroom and other much needed improvements.
