With 1,874 ballots tallied, about 78 percent voted in favor of the budget, which complies with the state-mandated tax cap. The district plans to increase the tax levy 1.77 percent.

The tax rate decreased 2.8 percent due to the Town of Mamaroneck’s re-evaluation process, which brought assessed values up 4.7 percent in the district. While the overall number is down, some homeowners may have a bigger school tax bill due to a home’s reassessed value.

The tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value is $13.72.

The budget cuts $2 million in staffing, which works out to 15.6 full-time equivalent positions, including three teachers as a result of outsourcing pre-kindergarten; 2.5 teacher aides, four clerical positions and 2.5 custodial and maintenance workers.

The district’s pre-kindergarten program will still be housed at Central School. But, with an outside provider running it, the district said it will save $173,000. It also cut yellow bus service for non-public school students who live in the district. There are about 60 who will be affected and given public transportation passes.

Incumbent Ann Lobue and newcommer Steven Warner, who has served as the treasurer of the Mamaroneck Library Board of Trusteees, were uncontested.

Joseph Vozza, who also serves on the library board, said he is said to see Warner go but that he will be a  good addition to the Mamaroneck School Board. He voted in favor of the school budget Tuesday at Mamaroneck Avenue School, where his two kids attend.
