Woodbury girls basketball, one of New Jersey's top Group 1 teams, has been disqualified from the state tournament after a bench-clearing fight last week, NJ Advance Media reports. Police in South Jersey said a report of an active shooter at a high school turned out to be false. Lower Township Police, along with other agencies, responded to Lower Cape May Regional High School for the report of an active shooter. "It was very quickly determined that the call was unfounded and there was no threat and the school returned to regularly scheduled classes and activities," Lower Township police said.

A 16-year-old Atlantic City High School student was arrested for sexually assaulting a peer, authorities said. The victim reported the assault in January 2022, prompting an investigation, Atlantic City police said. Upon return of a forensic analysis of the collected evidence from the investigation, charges were approved by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office on Jan. 12. 2023. New Jersey City University is laying off 30 tenured professors and 19 other faculty jobs as well as cutting 37 percent of its academic programs to help balance its budget, the university announced on Thursday, Dec. 15. Recent Hightstown High School graduate Julia McDaid, 18, was found dead in East Windsor Monday morning, police said. McDaid’s body was found near Bear Brook off of Oak Creek Road around 9:10 a.m., East Windsor Police said in a press release.
